Most pop-ups just ask for an email. Like this.

There's a better way.

A quiz-based pop-up asks one question before collecting the email.

Like this.

It does three things the standard pop-up can't:

  • Captures more subscribers (micro-commitment before the email input drives higher conversions)

  • Turns more subscribers into first-time buyers (personalized follow-up converts better than generic)

  • Improves the customer experience (people feel understood, not spammed)

The visitor clicks an answer. You capture their intent. Now you know exactly why they're there.

The Two Questions That Work:

  1. "What are you shopping for?"

Works best for brands with multiple product categories.

For example: A skincare brand might offer options like Anti-Aging, Acne, Dry Skin, or Brightening.

  1. "What problem are you trying to solve?"

Works best for brands with one core product that solves different problems for different people.

For example: A dog supplement brand might offer options like Digestive Health, Joint Support, Puppy Growth, or Overall Health.

Pick one. Build 2-4 answer options around it.

What You Do With the Data:

Step 1: Someone clicks Puppy Growth.

Step 2: They get tagged with an interest in Puppy Growth in Klaviyo.

Step 3: They get a welcome flow tailored to how your product supports Puppy Growth. Not a generic welcome flow from your brand.

How to Implement:

  1. Add a question step to your pop-up before the email input with 2-4 answer options based on your products or customer pain points

  2. Tag each subscriber in Klaviyo based on what they clicked

  3. Build separate welcome flow branches for each tag using a conditional split based on properties about someone. Custom property called 'INTEREST' equals 'XYZ'

  4. Tailor the messaging in each branch to that specific interest

What to track:

Welcome flow revenue per recipient before and after.

That's your number.

Hope this helps.

Luca
